Supermarine Spitfire builder’s guide, takes flight…

Did you enjoy owning and reading the Airfix books as a child? If so, we may have the perfect new release for you to collect…

‘Supermarine Spitfire – How To Model The Airfix Mk.XIV’ is a brand-new guide book dedicated to this very popular new kit. But there’s a twist: this book also harks back to the days of Airfix modelling guides and annuals, 70s books that many of you would have enjoyed as children, books that perhaps helped to start you along the model making path that we all travel today.

This book is unashamedly retro in size, design and feel. Reproduced as only an A5 hardback (there are no soft-back versions), the book uses the same fonts, design ideas and paper seen within the covers of those classic, earlier modelling titles. It will feel familiar and yet new I hope, and for those who ordered my previous Spitfire book, it will provide the perfect add-on to the information contained within that earlier publication. Though smaller in size, the two books are designed to work together within your collection of modelling titles.

Though this book is diminutive in size, it certainly offers plenty of information, both pictorially and by the inclusion of the accompanying text. It is the latter that perhaps sets this book apart from my earlier titles, because here, the use of over 10,000 words means that this a book that you can read, every bit as much as you can simply flick through to enjoy the pictures – at least, that’s the plan!

This new title will be 36 pages long, but will be crammed with plenty of information on how to get the best from the kit, a complete guide to construction, painting, any pitfalls that may trap the unwary and then how to paint and weather the results. Along the way, there is also a detailed review of what Airfix supply, as well as ideas on painting kit cockpits and that overall silver finish that so defines one of the colour scheme choices within the Airfix box. The idea is that this will be a detailed one-stop resource that you can enjoy, use for your build, and then keep!

BUT THERE’S MORE…

Along with the book, the package will also include a very special, limited-edition print, reproduced on high-quality 300 gsm paper, as well as a postcard that you can either keep, or send to friends.

HOW TO ORDER…

As with previous titles, this one is being created as a strictly limited-run product and as before, the £20 price-tag reflects this. Many of you will already have the other books in your collections so — hopefully — will know what this means in terms of quality and how enjoyable it is to own something that’s rather niche in its approach! These books are never sold through a third party, so this is the only way to own one and once they are gone, that’s it!

As with previous titles, here are links to my PayPal account where you will be able to pay for your copy. Please, as mentioned below, leave your address details! Though may have supplied your full address to them, it doesn’t show against your payment unless you enter it manually, so please check that you have!

UK Orders including postage and packing: £22 – PayPal.Me/DavidP671/22

Europe Orders including postage and packing: £25 – PayPal.Me/DavidP671/25

Rest Of World including postage and packing: £27.50 – PayPal.Me/DavidP671/27.50

DETAILS, DETAILS…

When using the Paypal links, please can you ensure that you do the following:

Leave your email address so that I can contact you if necessary – and your full name – not just your screen name!

Leave a full name and mailing address and if you have reserved a copy under a screen name such as seen on here, that as well please. Sometimes its easy to click the link, but not add additional details, so please, if you can, fill in you COMPLETE address so that I can simply cut and paste it for use on the mailing labels and envelopes. If I can’t find your address or full name, I can’t send out the book, so the more information I have, the easier and more efficient it will be!

If you need to contact me about anything to do with the book, place an order, or have any other questions, please either leave a message here, or contain me using my email address:

spencerpollard1(at)gmail.com

So for now, that’s just about it with the book, all that needs to be done now to finalise design and get everything off to the printers next week ready for release during the first few weeks of September. Thank you all so much for you support with this project and for taking the time to read this update. I hope that you enjoy the book when it arrives and hope that you all have a wonderful day. Thanks so much!
